New Zealand is a great place to study English and if you study at an English New Zealand school you can be sure of a quality experience.
New Zealand attracts students from all over the world – students focused on further education as well as students who are seeking tourism plus study options.
Tourism is a very big part of our attraction for students; New Zealand is known for its great outdoors, adventure and cultural activities, and its friendly welcoming people. You can enjoy summer sports and activities such as hiking, sailing, mountain biking, and kayaking, or winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding. If you’re not into outdoor activities, we have great cultural activities and experiences too. Visit – www.newzealand.com – to see just what New Zealand can offer you as a destination.
English New Zealand has 27 full member schools located throughout New Zealand in eleven different destinations. You can study in a big or a small city, or in one of New Zealand’s most popular tourism destinations.
You can study in either government-owned or private language schools and can choose a school with a student population that suits your personality and your study needs. Member schools offer a range of courses including beginner to advanced levels of General/Intensive English, academic preparation, examination courses such as TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS and Cambridge, and teacher training programmes.
New Zealand attracts students from all over the world and you will have the opportunity to study and make friends with students from many different countries such as Japan, China, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Thailand, Switzerland, Taiwan, Vietnam, Russia, Germany, Spain, France, Colombia, French Polynesia, and Chile.
The maximum number of students per class varies and will be shown on the school’s website or promotional material. The average number of students is often smaller as each student is tested on arrival so they are placed in the correct class for their current level of English.
Schools use modern teaching methods and while you will cover all four skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – you will get a lot of speaking practice working in pairs or larger groups within the class. One major advantage of studying in a country where English is the primary language spoken is that you’ll get a lot of opportunity to practice in everyday situations: at school, at your homestay, and out in the community while socialising or enjoying activities.
All English language providers in New Zealand must meet the government (NZQA) requirements for accreditation. The NZQA and the Ministry of Education, via the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students, require all schools to provide a high level of care for students including protecting student fees.
In addition to the government requirements, all English New Zealand member schools must satisfy the English New Zealand quality assurance programme – the English New Zealand Standards. Our schools are assessed against academic and management best practice standards to make sure students are able to have a great study experience. Only schools that continue to meet these standards can be members of English New Zealand.
English New Zealand member schools are very experienced at helping students to improve their English. The school you choose will guide you through the enrolment process, provide you with the necessary documents for your visa application, arrange homestay or dormitory accommodation if required, and give you information about living and studying in New Zealand.
When you’re thinking of where to study don’t limit yourself to the big city options. You might also choose to study at a couple of different schools during your time in New Zealand so you can experience the North and South Islands, and/or two different cities. Most English language schools offer an excellent activities/social programme and will also give you advice on how to make the most out of your time in New Zealand.
If you want to meet students from all over the world, enjoy fantastic scenery, participate in just about any activity you’ve ever dreamed of doing – and improve your English – New Zealand is the place for you.
